The tournament also put perhaps the coolest chant in all of sports on display: The Viking war chant. The Vikings joined up with Iceland’s Aron Gunnarsson and Iceland native Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson to introduce the “Skol Chant.” In a cool gesture, Iceland is sharing its unique Viking tradition with the NFL’s Vikings. But there’s something about a manufactured tradition in its early stages that seems off.
It never ceased to be intimidating, and it was so awesome that fans at the Euros tried to imitate the chant with less-than-stellar results. This was how the chant looked and sounded during Monday’s game against the Giants.
In war, in peace, and in completely inconsequential stuff like sports, we always need to be heard.
But here’s the thing - not all sports chants are created equal.
You know who you are, and if you don’t, you’re about to find out.
