If you or someone you know is a teen who regularly uses the internet, take steps to stay safe.

It is vital that you learn the warning signs of predators and know what steps to take if you encounter them.

Toowoomba State High School issued a warning to parents of the dangers social media apps and online dating sites presented to children.

Its post said Mylol was described as "Tinder for Teenagers" and a "Playground for paedophiles", and warned parents of fake accounts on the site.

Many people, especially young adults, enjoy spending a lot of time online.

Unfortunately, the digital world can have just as many dangers as the "real" world.

Toowoomba Child Protection Investigation Unit Sergeant Brent Parker said while police had received no reports of suspicious behaviour on the app, it served as a reminder for all parents to be mindful of their children using social media. "Parents do need to be aware and be vigilant with the monitoring of their children's use of social media and internet." Any parents with concerns over their child's interaction with people online should contact police.
